helping those less fortunate

Our communitybenefit fund

Along with keeping Coolum Beach safe, helping those less fortunate in our community is something Coolum Surf Club prides itself on.

This is why a Community Benefit Fund was set up in 2010. Each year we help local Not-For-Profit charitable entities both financially and in-kind to assist them in providing much needed community support.

The Coolum Beach organisations that we support include:

  • St Vincent De Paul
  • The Salvation Army
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Coolum HeARTs
  • Coolum and North Shore Coast Care
  • Quota Club
  • Lions Club

We have also helped raise and donated much needed funds to:

  • Townsville Flood Victims
  • Coolum Rural Firefighters
  • CWA to help drought affected farmers

Supporting Coolum Beach Surf Life Saving Club and the Community

reducing our carbon footprint

Going green at Coolum Surf Club

We have been working extremely hard to reduce our carbon footprint and become more environmentally friendly.

Here at Coolum Surf Club we have been doing this by implementing a number of measures, many of which have proven to be cost-saving and allow us to provide better financial support to our Surf Life Saving Club as well as local Not-For-Profit charitable groups but most importantly have reduced our Carbon Footprint helping us become a more conscientious global corporate citizen. We are:

  • Using renewable energy with a 100 kiloWatt Solar System which helps us remove 100 tonnes of CO2 emissions from the atmosphere which is the equivalent of planting 150 trees every year
  • Pulping up to 4 tonnes of food waste every week and converting it to eco friendly fertiliser
  • Recycling all of our glass with our Local Containers for Change at Coolum Beach
  • Using eWater to reduce our chemical footprint by 50%
  • Using rainwater before town water
  • Keeping it local by buying local
  • Using energy-efficient and all efficient kitchen equipment
  • Moving from Gas Hot water to an Air Sourced Heat Pump System which has reduced our hot water energy usage by 80%
  • Removing plastics and styrofoam and replacing with bio-degradable compostable products
